Category: Product / How is One-Click Restore different from Windows' System Restore?
There are some similarities between Windows' System Restore and NeuShield's One-Click Restore. In fact, today NeuShield leverages some System Restore technology in it's One-Click Restore feature. However, there are a few limitations with System Restore that One-Click Restore does not have:
- Many ransomware programs clear the System Restore cache after infection so the system cannot go back to a previous snapshot. This makes the feature not very valuable when trying to recover from ransomware. With NeuShield, the One-Click Restore snapshots are protected so ransomware cannot delete them.
- System Restore only takes snapshots when certain events happen, like new software is installed or a patch is installed. This means that a snapshot may not be available during the time-frame you need it. However, NeuShield’s One-Click Restore takes a snapshot every 24 hours so you can always find a snapshot for the time-frame you need it.
- System Restore has been known to be unreliable and commonly fails. NeuShield’s One-Click Restore is more reliable and we are continually working to improve it's reliability.
- Finally, System Restore is disabled by default on many Windows 10 systems and, to make matters worse, System Restore sometimes gets disabled after installing certain patches or updates. So, even if System Restore is currently enabled it could get disabled in the future without you knowing about it. Whereas, NeuShield’s One-Click Restore is always running to ensure that snapshots are created so they are ready when you need them.
