Category: Iperius Console / Remote Desktop connection with Iperius Console
Iperius Console is a software for centralized management and monitoring of PCs, servers and backup procedures.
Iperius Console can be tested and purchased from its official website: https://www.iperiusconsole.com. Following the purchase, we will receive access credentials and a license code.
Starting from version 2.2.0, Iperius Console also allows Remote Desktop connections using Iperius Remote, therefore using the remote support product of the Iperius suite as a plug-in.
Requirements:
To get this functionality, you need to use the Windows application of Iperius Console (in fact, Iperius Console is available not only as a web portal, but also as a software that can be installed on Windows, MAC OS, Android and iOS). To download the Iperius Console Windows application, click on the following link: https://www.iperiusconsole.com/download/SetupIperiusConsole.exe.
After installing and opening the program, enter your credentials:
The main functionality of Iperius Console is to allow the monitoring of numerous computers and servers, starting from a single interface. The monitoring mainly concerns the state of the backups (Iperius Backup must be installed on the monitored machines) and the health and safety of the systems, in terms of hardware and software. Iperius Console makes it possible to monitor the presence of antivirus and firewall, the used space on the disks, the RAM and the CPU, the running processes, etc.
Adding a computer to Iperius Console:
To add a new computer to those monitored by Iperius Console, you must first install the Console Agent software on the remote computer (endpoint). The installation of Iperius Console Agent will require the license code you received after the purchase and the name of the “workgroup” in which you want to insert the computer. To see how to do this, read the related tutorial: https://www.iperiusbackup.net/en/monitoring-your-backups-with-iperius-console-installation-and-configuration/.
Iperius Console allows a complete management of the “workgroups”, of the users and of the computers associated with each group, giving the opportunity to configure in a timely manner the viewing and execution permissions for specific operations. For example, one user could be configured to view only certain computers, while another one might have the ability to perform remote backups or update Iperius software on endpoints.
On the dashboard, we can immediately see the list of the last backups and some important statistics. From the side menu we can access the various workgroups and then the related computers.
For each remote computer connected it is possible to view the status of the system in real time, with information including the used space on disk, the correct installation of antivirus and firewall, the RAM and CPU currently in use and the active processes (it is necessary that Iperius Console Agent is updated to the latest version).
Click on a computer name (in the image below you can see a computer that is connected and where there are some warnings about the system status):
As already explained above, with Iperius Console for Windows, downloadable from here, it is possible to use Iperius Console also to connect to computers in remote desktop in a simple and immediate way.
To have this feature, you need to have Iperius Remote present on your computer (Iperius Remote can be downloaded from its official website: https://www.iperiusremote.com). Iperius Remote is a portable software, so you will have the IperiusRemote.exe file in the folder where you downloaded it.
So let’s go into the general settings and select the path of the Iperius Remote executable:
Required updates:
To ensure correct operation, it is advisable to update both Iperius Remote and Iperius Console Agent to the latest version available on the monitored computers.
Viewing computers and the Iperius Remote menu:
All computers with updated versions of Iperius Console Agent and Iperius Remote, will show a button with the status of Iperius Remote, and the ability to access various features with a special menu:
On the line of the computer to which you want to connect in remote desktop, click on the button where the ID of Iperius Remote is shown. A drop-down menu will open with various items, enabled or disabled based on the status of Iperius Remote and Iperius Console Agent on that computer.
The entries are as follows:
- Open remote desktop
- Download & Connect
- Allow connection
- Update
Explain below what you can do with the various menu items:
Open remote desktop
As the text itself says, this menu item allows you to connect to the monitored computer in remote desktop mode. If you click on this item, Iperius Remote will be opened, which will automatically connect to the remote computer.
Download & Connect
This menu item appears enabled if the monitored computer does not have Iperius Remote (which may not be installed as a service, not connected, or even not present on the remote machine). Clicking on it, Iperius Console will send a command to the remote computer to download Iperius Remote and enable it to receive connections (it will be necessary to wait a few minutes and then refresh the page).
Allow connection
This menu item appears enabled when the remote computer has Iperius Remote open (or activated as a service) but not enabled to receive remote desktop connections. In this case, Iperius Console sends the command to the monitored computer to enable remote connections (it will be necessary to wait a few minutes and then refresh the page).
Update
This menu item is always active, and allows you to update Iperius Remote to the latest version on the remote machine (also in this case it is necessary to wait a few minutes).
Note: if this menu item is not active, it is likely that the remote computer is not connected to the internet or that the versions of Iperius Console Agent or Iperius Remote are very old. It will therefore be necessary, respectively, to ensure that the remote computer is connected and access it with other methods to update the Iperius programs.
